Everything Begins With Attention

ADHD Boston is a team of uniquely specialized professionals dedicated to improving the quality of life for adults with ADHD, or Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, also referred to as ADD when the hyperactivity component is not prominent.

We have made it our mission to understand what ADHD actually means to individuals and their families, not just the list of diagnostic criteria to which most doctors refer.

We know ADHD. We know what people with ADHD struggle with, what they are good at, what makes them happy and what disappoints them. We have evaluated and treated thousands of people with ADHD over the past 20 years. All of this time spent with people, listening to their stories, has taught us what no textbook or diagnostic manual could ever convey: that ADHD is not, as the name indicates, a deficit or disorder, but rather a complex set of traits that has generated many misconceptions, contradictions and biases over the decades since becoming a valid diagnosis.

We have learned that people with ADHD do not like to be disorganized. The do not enjoy procrastinating, being late, not listening or being distracted. They do not want to have difficulty starting tasks, and then when they do, jump to something else before they finish it. They do enjoy thinking creatively, being curious about and interested in many subjects, crafting words and objects of great quality, and solving problems. People with ADHD want to be productive, efficient, competent and most certainly want to be praised for a job well done.

We have also learned that there are paradoxes within ADHD such as perfectionism, the ability to see all sides of an issue simultaneously, careful consideration of infinite choices, the ability to hyperfocus on subjects of intense interest, and the high probability of being gifted in certain areas of intellect and ability.

Knowing ADHD is important because it allows us to offer more effective suggestions and help people get the most out their lives.

It is also what sets ADHD Boston apart from the rest.
