Medication

Medication is often a necessary part of the treatment plan for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and other associated conditions, such as anxiety and depression.  The symptoms of AD/HD result from biochemical differences in the brain, therefore medications which adjust this chemical balance can improve functioning significantly.

In many cases, symptoms of AD/HD can be alleviated with medication.  However, all medications have associated risks and benefits.  It is important to collaborate  with your doctor and evaluate as to whether or not these factors add up favorably.

Common AD/HD medications include:
• Methlyphenidate
(also known as Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin and Metadate)
• Amphetamine (also known as Adderall and Dexadrine)
• Atomoxetine (also known as Strattera)
