We believe it is important for you to know the educational/professional backgrounds of the people who treat you. Enclosed are descriptions of their education, professional experience and clinical expertise. Thor Bergersen, M.D. is a graduate of the University of Vermont and University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed residency training in adult psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and University of Vermont College of Medicine, where he was part of a research group investigating the genetics and medication treatment of childhood psychiatric disorders. He served as Medical Director for a multi-clinic outpatient mental health system in eastern Massachusetts prior to joining ADHD Boston. He is board certified in psychiatry.
Catherine Birgeneau, Ph.D. is a graduate of Yale University and University of Massachusetts/Boston. She completed a clinical internship at Harvard Medical School in the Massachusetts Mental Health Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital combined internship. After receiving her doctorate, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing. She has taught classes in the Psychology Department and Women’s Studies department at UMass Boston and Wheelock College. Catherine is experienced in psychoeducational consulting, individual and group therapy with adult and adolescents, and neuropsychological assessments.
Theresa Garvin, L.I.C.S.W. is a graduate of Columbia University, School of Social Work. She has eighteen years of experience counseling children, teens and parents in a variety of settings, including outpatient, inpatient, residential, school and community. Theresa enjoys doing play therapy and social skills groups with children, as well as individual therapy with teens and consulting with parents. Theresa has experience working with many childhood disorders as well as peer and self esteem issues.
David Lipsitt, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist and certified health service provider who received his doctorate from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He integrates approaches from psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapies, as well as behavioral medicine to support children and adults challenged by ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, mood and anxiety disorders, anger management, stress tolerance, and relationship issues. David is also experienced in psychological assessment and testing. In addition to his work at ADHD Boston, David is a staff psychologist at McLean Hospital's Center for Neurodevelopmental Services.
Carol E. Montgomery, Ph.D. has over twenty years experience with neuropsychological evaluation and treatment. She has worked in a variety of settings including rehabilitation hospitals, residential homes and correctional institutions which have enabled her to acquire a strong understanding of what aspects of neuropsychological test data is relevant to the functional and behavioral problems a client faces. She is well versed in issues confronting persons with AD/HD, learning disability and brain injury and enjoys group and individual treatment of anger management issues in addition to neurobehavioral assessment.
Christine Robinson, M.Ed. is an ADHD Coach and Educational Consultant. Christine received her Bachelor’s Degree from Clark University and her Master’s Degree in Education from Fitchburg State College. She is a certified teacher and coach who also has over 20 years of sales and management experience. Christine focuses on coaching older teens and adults with organizational and time management challenges along with those making business or personal transitions who are seeking optimal performance in their lives. Christine also enjoys working with parents of small children to help guide them in managing their child’s ADHD symptoms, managing behavioral issues and general parenting techniques. She can also be a resource in directing her clients to appropriate alternative therapies. In addition, Christine has had personal experience advocating for her own child and has helped many families navigate the IEP process through Special Education and seek appropriate services and programs for their children.
Rebecca Shafir, M.A., C.C.C. is a speech/language pathologist, neurotherapist and author of the award-winning book The Zen of Listening: Mindful Communication in the Age of Distraction (Quest Books 2000). Formerly, the Chief of Speech/Language Pathology at the Lahey Clinic, Ms. Shafir has over twenty five years of clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adults with speech, language, and voice disorders. Her advice has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Washington Post and other major national publications. Her specialties include LENS neurofeedback for children and adults, biofeedback for stress management, HEG hemoencephalography and executive function training.
Robin Roman Wright, M.A. specializes in offering customized coaching that is strengths-based, structured and supportive. She works with clients to enhance time management, organizational and decision-making skills as well as improve study habits. For those who are seeking career direction, Robin helps them identify their talents and skills and articulate where, within the world of work, they might find fulfillment and joy. Prior to becoming an AD/HD Coach, she provided coaching and training services internally in the financial services industry for 18 years. She has a master’s degree from the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration. She has presented locally and nationally including at the International Career Development Conference and the 2009 CHADD International Conference on AD/HD. She works with college students, young adults and mid-career professionals who want to increase their effectiveness and create a more satisfying life.
